About Us
For the last fifty years, we have been a community of history enthusiasts, gamers, and storytellers. We look to make the past engaging and accessible, to bring to life rich imaginary worlds, and to unwind with a mix of boardgames.
Through wargames, we promote the study and enjoyment of military history, recreating battles in miniature and experiencing the tactics, tension, and drama of the past firsthand. Through these games we encourage the appreciation of real-world armies and the strategies and innovations that shaped them, helping to preserve and share this knowledge with new generations.
Our community also embraces tabletop role-playing and boardgaming. We run several campaigns, using many different systems, and our boardgame collection goes from quick and simple classics to sprawling epics that can take months to play.
Boardgaming
The club boasts a collection of over 400 board games, spanning generations of tabletop gaming, from timeless classics to modern BoardGameGeek favourites.
Our selection caters to every type of player, offering games for any number of participants, from solo adventures to large groups. Playtimes range from quick 20-minute sessions to full-day experiences (and sometimes even longer!), with complexity levels from easy-to-learn family games to deep strategic challenges.
Many games are generously contributed by our members. We ask only that the games are treated with care so that everyone can continue to enjoy them.
Role Playing
The club has run a wide variety of games, from early fantasy classics—such as both early and current editions of Dungeons and Dragons—to science fiction games like Star Wars and Traveller, and modern storytelling systems such as World of Darkness. Whether you enjoy heroic fantasy, cosmic horror, or character-driven drama—and whether you prefer a well-known system or a lesser-known gem—the club has something to offer.

Wargaming
Our wargaming collection spans thousands of years of conflict, from the past all the way to the possible battles of the far-future. We can field armies representing almost any era or setting — including ancient, medieval, early modern, twentieth century, fantasy, and science fiction (including, of course, bloody conflicts in the 41st millennium.
Games range from small skirmishes fought with a handful of miniatures to large-scale battles played across expansive tabletops with detailed terrain. One of the benefits of the club is that games can remain set up to be played again the week after, allowing for longer and larger wargames than you can play at home.
Our armies and scenery are lovingly painted, creating immersive battlefields that bring history and fantasy to life. Because much of the collection is shared by members, we ask that all miniatures and terrain are handled with care so they can continue to be enjoyed by everyone.

The Liverpool Wargames Association is a registered charity dedicated to encouraging the study and understanding of history through tabletop gaming. Our charitable aims include promoting interest in historical research and recreating significant battles and events in miniature, allowing both members of the public and participants to engage with history in an accessible and enjoyable way.
Further to the regular weekly activities of the club, we help bring history to life with demonstrations, participation games, and public events. By combining education with creativity, we inspire curiosity about history across all ages and experience levels.
As a volunteer-led organisation, we maintain gaming facilities and provide opportunities for people to learn, socialise, and participate in educational hobby activities. Our work supports the wider community by providing welcoming spaces where people can explore historical topics, develop skills, and share knowledge.
